The first phase of the project is done and ready for us to start building in the spring. This was finished in August. I’ve just been too busy to add the photos here until now.
Concrete! Lots of concrete!
Today was a big day because we had workers here at 7AM. A huge pumper truck arrived and got set up and by 9AM the first of four concrete trucks arrived. By noon, all was poured and the finishing touches were being done. Slab and footings are curing. In a week or so, the contractor will be back to do a retaining wall around the area that is below grade.
and just like that…
it was 4 years later.
Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.
Earl Nightingale
So… long story in the super short version. Stephen moved to MT at the end of April 2017. We sold our house in NC. Had some adventures. Got to living life. Bought a business with some friends (Boulder Creek Packs). Our beloved kitties, Tigger and Sheeba, passed away. We were chosen by two new kitties. Moved my mom and her two dogs here with us in November 2019 and sold the house she was living in. Now that we are all settled in and getting started (finally) on building our studios.
And now for some pictures in no particular order. And this is a picture heavy post so be patient. It will take a bit for the images to completely load.
Before we could start construction on the new space, we had to get our 1000 gal. propane tanks moved out of the way.
Our new construction project will house a music studio on the first floor and then a fiber/art/office space on the second floor. I don’t have a before pic that shows the deck when it was completely intact, but it went all the way across the north side of the house.
Tomorrow we will be up super early to meet the contractor and concrete truck as it pours 20+ yards of concrete. Sometime in the next week or so, they’ll be back to put in some retaining walls in the areas that will be below grade. I’m super excited to see the foundation piece done. This is a huge step to setting up this place to be our home.
tons of fun…
There’s been lots going on lately. I was going to post at the end of May then Stephen was here for a quick visit and I’ve been busy ever since he left. Here’s some of what’s been happening around here…
When Stephen was here, we took Buster (our 4WD truck) up to ride on some of the forest service roads. It was great, lots of pictures for you to enjoy ๐

Lost Horse Creek area
Then we went up to the Bass Creek Overlook.
The last day trip that we were able to get in before he left to go back to NC was up to St. Mary’s and around Lookout Trail.
Other things that have been going on is that we now have bicycles! I am relearning how to ride without running into things and hopefully without breaking my neck. It been fun and I look forward to getting out on the bike path that is here. Also, some pictures of our place, the moon, sunsets, and some cool clouds thrown in for good measure.
Other recent adventures include a hike, the Lee Metcalf Wildlife Preserve, and the Arts Along the Bitterroot tour. One of the artists on the tour had such beautiful gardens, I had to take some pictures.
Field Trips
We recently made a field trip up to St. Ignatius to the Amish store and then stopped in Arlee on the way back to see the Garden of One Thousand Buddhas.
St. Ignatius was beautiful but the Garden was amazing.
I also went over to Helena last week to visit a friend. It was a great day trip and I got to see an amazing sunset on the way back. I love the ride on Hwy. 12 from Garrison over to Helena. Such a beautiful area. Ran into snow up on McDonald Pass coming back but it wasn’t bad. Only had about an inch of slush on the road at the very top (6312 ft.) and was gone quickly.
